Emile Friant Paintings

Emile Friant (1863-1932) is an artist who spent little time promoting his work in the United States and perhaps this explains why I had not heard of him until recently. His paintings generally depict everyday scenes from the lives of poor french folks, much like Bouguereau, though mostly with a looser style. Some of these remind me a little of Edmund Tarbell, John Singer Sargent, and Frank Benson. Have a look for yourself...

  • Mr. Yoder,

I am grateful for your work on this site, and I have been a reader of your writings here and at the ARC. Keep up the good work, I feel some of the difficulties too of being a "traditionalist" as an art student.

I will like to point out to the modernists an excellent link on fallacies right here: http://www.nizkor.org/features/fallacies/index.html#index

Maybe you modernists would like to read this carefully before dishing out slanderous accusations at Mr. Yoder, or any other supporters of sane and reasonable art. You guys must have committed Ad Hominem countless times... nothing wrong with that you say? I say it's
because you have no good points left to argue on!

If you modernists would not even want to debate in a civilised manner, then there is not point in talking at all. You are probably worse than a "barbarian", as you claimed to have "education" but yet resort to character assassination and lowbrow language the moment you ran out of ideas to argue upon. I am pretty open minded to listen to opinions, whether modernist or not, in they are presented systematically, and please, not as a string of ranting and F-Words.

That is all I have to say. Kindly, please, if you have nothing intelligent to say, SHUT UP. Else you will be merely exposing your ignorance and your lack of anything good in you. And if you think there's nothing wrong with that... well I rest my case.

Thanks Mr. Yoder again. May Truth prevail over ugliness and everything filthy!

  • Emile Friant was considered a Naturalist, like Bastien-Lepage. He has a famous work La Toussaint which shows up in many books on 19th century art and naturalism
