Maxfield Parrish (1870-1966)
Maxfield Parrish was one of the greatest painters of the 20th century, which particularly in the era
when he did most of his work was quite hostile to realism, clarity, and the technical mastery
that is his hallmark. Fortunately there are a lot of good sources of information about him, the best of which is
definitely Alma Gilbert's Maxfield Parrish Masterworks (the second edition of which has an appendix with several
previously unavailable works). Pomegranate Artbooks also
(Box 6099, Rohnert Park, California 94927) publishes a book of postcards of Parrish's paintings as well as cards,
calendars, and other such things featuring works by Parrish and other great artists.
